What are clear aligners?

Clear aligners are removable orthodontic appliances that fit over your upper or lower dental arch. They place mild pressure on your teeth and jaw, improving their alignment and position.

Traditionally, fixing alignment problems required metal braces, but clear aligners provide the same results thanks to advances in orthodontics.

What types of alignment issues can clear aligners treat?

AppleTree Dental uses ClearCorrect aligners to correct various alignment issues, including:

• Crowding
• Crooked teeth
• Overlapping teeth
• Gaps between teeth

You might also be a candidate for treatment with clear aligners if you have a bite abnormality, such as overbite, crossbite, or underbite.

What does getting clear aligners involve?

At AppleTree Dental, getting clear aligners begins with a review of your dental records, discussing your smile goals, and an oral exam. Your provider also takes a series of digital X-rays to check the alignment of your teeth and jaw.

After gathering the necessary data, your provider takes impressions of your mouth with the Medit i500® scanner. Then, they upload your impressions to a computer-design program. 

The program makes it easy for your provider to develop a custom orthodontic treatment plan. This advanced technology maps out the precise movements of your teeth and jaw, giving key insights about your treatment. Your provider sends this information to a ClearCorrect lab.

The ClearCorrect lab uses your impressions to manufacture a set of custom clear aligners. When they’re finished, you return to AppleTree Dental to try them on.

Throughout orthodontic treatment, you visit AppleTree Dental every few weeks. At each checkup, you switch to a new set of aligners. Each set of clear aligners puts slightly different pressure on your teeth and jaw to gradually improve your smile’s appearance.

How long does treatment with clear aligners take?

The time that treatment with clear aligners takes depends on various factors, including the alignment problems addressed and your commitment to your provider’s care plan. Most people achieve more symmetrical smiles in 12-18 months*, but it may take longer. 

Follow your provider’s instructions carefully, attend each of your scheduled checkups, and wear your aligners for 20-22 hours a day (only removing them to eat or brush your teeth).
